it started very well being introduced as the one to sing the Philippine National Anthem during the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey Fight in Dallas Cowboys Stadium. Arnel Pineda was introduced as the lead singer of the famous band ‘Journey’ but at the end of the song, he changed the usual ending and it came out bad. so disappointed.

Hello there. I love our country as much as any Filipino does, yet I don’t mind the slight deviations Arnel Pineda felt he needed to do. It was a powerfu rendition and it moved me. Singing with the lyrics so well enunciated, so heartfelt reminded me of how great our nation is and of the sacrifices of our heroes then and I think more importantly on that occassion, the sacrifice Manny Pacquiao offers to give glory and honor to our country. The thunderous and spontaneous response he received from the 51,000 spectators of various nationalities present made me feel very proud, that I am a Filipino!!!! Hindi lang lahi ng mga domestic helper, laborers, corrupt na opisyales at mga utak talangka kundi lahi din ng mga de kalibre at maipagmamalaking Pilipino kagaya niya at ni Manny.

The outcome of Arnel Pineda’s performance did not really disappoint me. The only thing I have noticed is that these professional singers who have been picked to sing the national anthem demonstrated the same mistakes. Watching and listening to these past mistakes could have saved him from doing it again. Surely, he did sang “”Lupang Hinirang” with all his heart and I felt it. However, it was not shown at the end of the song.

I disagree to believe that “Filipinos never learn” and yet once you have actually seen these things, you can’t help ending up disappointed.

Still, Arnel Pineda is our Arnel Pineda and we salute you…
